The smart leader can get results in the short-term, the wise leader can net results in both the short and the long-term.<\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><b>Schawbel:\u00a0<\/b>What should someone who isn\u2019t passionate about their work do?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goleman:<\/strong>\u00a0I like Howard Gardner\u2019s concept of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/morethansound.net\/shop\/leadership-a-master-class-todays-leadership-imperative-with-howard-gardner-and-daniel-goleman\/#.UyMU6V7BGMI\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cgood work,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0which combines what you\u2019re excellent at doing with what engages you and feels meaningful. Someone who is not passionate about the work they do now might consider how to make a portion of their job \u201cgood work,\u201d or how to enlarge that portion over the course of their career.<\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><b>Schawbel:<\/b>\u00a0Can you discuss the leader\u2019s \u201ctriple focus\u201d?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goleman:<\/strong>\u00a0Leaders need an\u00a0<i>inner<\/i>\u00a0focus to be aware of their own feelings, values and intuitions, and to manage themselves well.
