he pioneered the use of peace keeping forces and championed a kind of diplomacy that is at odds with much contemporary practice.<\/p>\n<p>He eschewed the idea of diplomacy as a game of one upmanship and believed instead in what he called the fundamentals of good negotiation \u2013 careful preparation, truthfulness, precision, patience, impassivity and modesty.<\/p>\n<p>He is the only person to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously, also the only head of the UN to die in office, in a plane crash in central Africa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ct-social-share\" style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-send=\"false\" data-layout=\"box_count\" data-width=\"450\" data-show-faces=\"false\"><\/div>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-share-button\" style=\"color: #535800;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" data-lang=\"en\" data-count=\"vertical\">Tweet<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"g-plus\" data-action=\"share\" data-annotation=\"vertical-bubble\" data-height=\"60\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"share-email\"><a class=\"ico ico-email\" style=\"font-weight: bold;
